Appearance:

Macroscopic
Tumor 6 cm in diameter, located at the uterus corpus.

Cut section shows hemorrhagic areas and necrosis.

Microscopic
Tumor is characterized by proliferations of cytotrophoblasts and syncitiotrophoblasts. The neoplastic cells have basophilic, irregular nuclei and vacuolated abundant cytoplasm. Nuclear chromatin is coarse and nucleoli are prominent. Mitoses are evident. Many multinucleated cells are seen. The tumor cells invade the smooth muscular layer. The stroma shows hemorrhagic necrotic areas and inflammatory cell reactions including lymphocytes and histocytes. Placental villi are not revealed.
