PATHOLOGY DATA

 
Location: Colon.  
   
Gross findings:

Tumor size 5 x 5 x 3 cm with ulcerative surface.

Cut surface is soft, white.

Regional lymph nodes: 4

   
Microscopic findings: Tissue sections show proliferation of malignant epithelial cell clusters. Epithelial cells have small, basophilic, irregular nuclei and abundant cytoplasm. Mitotic figures are evident. The tumor cells form glands and invaded through the muscularis propria and subserosa. The stroma is infiltrated by large numbers of inflammatory cells. Tumor necrosis and blood vessel invasion are revealed. Lymph nodes show negative.
